Septic Tank Inspections

Septic Tank Inspections

A failed septic system can be a costly problem. In order to avoid this, make sure you have your system examined regularly. Lack of regular inspection or maintenance is the leading cause of a failed system. Exercise diligent prevention practices by scheduling regular inspections, and save yourself from potential legal liability and lowered property values.

Inspecting the Tank

We recommend a regular annual septic tank inspection to maintain proper function and prevent damage or problems. The process is simple: the technician will locate your system and its parts, then open the access points to the tank. This allows them to inspect all of the parts and make sure that waste is flowing into the tank properly. The most vital step in the inspection is to measure the fullness of the tank and determine how much sludge and scum is present. With this information, the technician can recommend a timeline of regularity for pumping your tank. The tank walls and surrounding elements (trees, roots etc.) will also be examined for solidity and any cracks or faultiness identified. Beware–all fumes coming from inside the tank are toxic and can be very harmful to your health. Only a trained professional should be trusted with septic tank inspection and maintenance.

Inspecting the System

Inspections are extremely valuable because they can help you identify any problems that may exist within the system before they get out of control and cause irreversible damage. Our inspectors will perform a full check on your drain field as well as your actual tank. They will inspect all relevant indicators of problems around the house, such as drains backing up, pooling liquid in certain areas near the tank, and/or strips or irregularly green grass sprouting near the drain field. These signs can all be indicative of a larger problem brewing underground. You will want to keep a folder of records detailing all inspections performed on your system, and all relevant info about your system, in order to best inform future inspector technicians. It is also helpful to have a grid or map of the system’s location. Arming yourself with this information can help save you money and expedite the process in the future.
